James is the voice of film on Radio 1, talking movies with Edith Bowman every Wednesday and Friday. He also occasionally presents the Early Breakfast show, Bank Holiday soundtrack specials and is the bleary-eyed veteran of several all-night Oscar programmes. His work on Radio 1 was nominated for a prestigious Sony Award in 2004.

James has appeared as a film expert on shows as varied as Richard & Judy (C4), The Daily Politics (BBC2), BBC Breakfast News (BBC1) and LK Today (ITV1). He was also a panellist on the not-very-good BBC2 gameshow Nobody Likes A Smartass.

He also regularly hosts press conferences and audience Q & A sessions with film-makers and actors, most recently Steven Spielberg, Will Smith and the cast of X-Men at the Cannes Film Festival.

James was educated in Ipswich, Falmouth and Warwick (where he presented a student radio show with best friend Stephen Merchant), has adopted a goat at an animal sanctuary, has a passion for car boot sales and has a cameo role in the straight-to-DVD horror movie Freakout!
